# Plans, limits and retention

> What each Zelto plan includes, what counts toward the monthly limits, and how long Zelto keeps your data.

Zelto has three plans: **Free**, **Observability** and **Improve**. Every
organization starts on Free. The in-app **Plans** view and the public
[pricing page](https://dashboard.zelto.ai/pricing) show the current prices and
limits; this page explains what they mean.

## What each plan includes

| | Free | Observability | Improve |
| - | - | - | - |
| Price | \$0 | \$189 per month | Custom |
| Connected agents | 1 | Unlimited | Unlimited |
| Conversation minutes per month | 100 | 5,000 | Custom |
| Spans and logs per month | 10,000 | 100,000 | Custom |
| Retention | 7 days | 90 days | Custom |
| [Monitors](/docs/monitors) | Not included | Included | Included |
| [Reports](/docs/reports) | One report in total | Included | Included |
| [Experiments](/docs/experiments) | Not included | Included | Included |
| [Findings](/docs/findings) and [changes](/docs/changes) | Not included | Not included | Included |

Everything else is available on every plan: connecting agents, importing or
uploading [conversations](/docs/conversations), reading transcripts, and
exploring [traces](/docs/traces).

> [!NOTE]
>
> A page for a feature your plan does not include stays in the sidebar. It
> explains what the feature does and which plan unlocks it. Nothing you
> already have is removed when you upgrade.

## What counts toward the limits

* **Conversation minutes** are the length of the conversations Zelto analyzes
in a month. Each conversation counts once, by its duration. Text
  conversations, whose `metadata.channel` is `text`, `chat`, `web-chat`, `sms`,
`whatsapp` or `in-app`, use no minutes. A conversation with no duration is
not counted or analyzed until one is recorded, and shows **Not analyzed: no
duration recorded**; send `call.durationSeconds` or `call.startedAt` and
  `call.endedAt` with it.
* **Spans and logs** are the telemetry your agents send. A
[trace](/docs/traces) is the step-by-step record of one agent run. Each step
is a span. Logs are the text messages your agent writes. Spans and logs
  count together.
* **Connected agents** are the agents that send conversations to Zelto.

Usage above your included amounts on a paid plan is added to the monthly
invoice. The **Usage** and **Billing** tabs under
[Settings](/docs/settings#usage) show where you stand. Included amounts start
again on the 1st of each month at 00:00 UTC.

## What happens at the Free limits

The Free plan is never charged, and it does not ask for a card. When you reach
a limit, Zelto does not bill you; this is what changes instead:

* **100 conversation minutes.** A conversation is analyzed only if its whole
duration fits in the minutes you have left this month. One that is longer than
what is left is still received and stored, so you can read its transcript, but
Zelto does not analyze it; a shorter conversation that arrives later and still
fits is analyzed, so the meter can read 80 / 100 while a long conversation is
skipped. Zelto decides this after it has answered your upload with `200`, so
the response looks the same either way. To see which conversations were skipped,
look for **Not analyzed** in the Conversations list and in a conversation's
details. The **Usage** tab shows **Not enough minutes left** with the number
skipped this month. Skipped conversations are not analyzed retroactively when
the month resets; upgrading analyzes the ones that arrive afterwards.
* **10,000 spans and logs.** Telemetry over the limit is still received.
* **1 connected agent.** A conversation for a second, new agent is refused with
a `403` and the error `connected_agent_limit`, and it is not stored. The
**Usage** tab shows how many conversations were refused. Conversations for
the agent you already have keep working.
* **1 report.** The one report is in total, not per month. A report that fails
  to generate is not counted.

To go beyond a limit, [upgrade your plan](#change-your-plan).

## Retention

Retention is how long Zelto keeps the content of your conversations, such as
transcripts, recordings and raw provider payloads, and your traces, spans and
logs. Zelto deletes older content every day. The conversation record itself and
the metrics built from it stay, so your history and trends do not change.

* **Free** keeps content for **7 days**.
* **Observability** keeps content for **90 days**.
* **Improve** uses the retention agreed with you.

Traces, spans and logs are never kept longer than 90 days on any plan.

Open a conversation to see when its content will be deleted: the **Content
retention** line in its details shows the date, counted from when the
conversation was created. It is empty when your retention is unlimited.

> [!WARNING]
>
> If you cancel a paid subscription, your organization returns to the Free
> plan, including its 7-day retention. Content older than 7 days is then
> deleted.

Retention can also be set to a shorter period for your organization. Ask your
Zelto contact if you need that. To ask about deleting your data sooner, see
the [Privacy Policy](/docs/legal/privacy-policy).

## Change your plan

Owners and admins can upgrade from **Settings → Billing**. Observability is
self-serve. For Improve, use **Talk to founders** or write to
